Skill Building
You have probably heard of the five stages of Skill Developement:
1. Learn the skill
2. Practice the skill
3. Master the skill
4. Functionalize the skill
5. Maintain the skill
The first two steps are the easiest to acquire, especially if you are training in a quality club, studio or gym.
To gain the benefits of the last three stages you must spend extra time outside the club practicing/training the skills.
Attribute Training
Solo training drills such as Shadowboxing can go a long way in boosting your attributes for a specific skill.
Cross training in activities such as basketball to improve footwork, feinting and quick reflexes can improve your sparring and PIA.
Groundfighting will improve the attributes of explosiveness and sensitivity. Plus overall physical strength.
Cycling for cardiovascular endurance and improve leg strength for kicking.
Shadow Boxing for coodination and line familiarization and improved body mechanics for empty hands.
Stick and Knife sparring to build quick footwork and reflexes.
Heavy bag for power and combinations...etc
Its a life time of work but the benefits gained are well worth it.
